Smart City #19: From World Heritage to Smart City – a long way to go?

In the Smart City Event Series #19, Toni Lautenschläger, Dipl. Phys. & Head of the City of Regensburg, reports on the path to becoming a Smart City.

In this year’s Smart City Index of the digital association Bitkom, which annually examines all German cities with a population of 100,000 or more for their progress in digitization, the city of Regensburg was able to improve significantly both in the overall ranking and in four of the five sub-categories and is now one of the top 20 smartest cities in Germany at 17th place. This means that the city has climbed 17 places compared to last year’s ranking and is one of five cities to have gained the most ground. The reason for this is the successful implementation of various digitalization and smart city projects.
